Dorset Food & Drink Awards

We have 12 categories for you to choose from, find yours and enter from Monday 28th June 2021. If your business is lucky enough to qualify for more than one of our awards, then please enter ALL of them by 5pm on Monday 27th September 2021 to be in with a chance to win.

BAKERY

2 Classes – Sweet or Savoury

Do you have skills in the baking section of the kitchen? Are you producing delicious sweet or savoury treats galore for our Dorset locals? If so, then enter our awards today.

We are looking for the very best Sweet and Savoury Bakers in Dorset, and we will be awarding a Winner and a Runner-Up for both Sweet and Savoury Bakers. If you produce both sweet and savoury products then you may enter one of your products into each class.

We want to hear how you are sourcing and using your local ingredients and what truly makes your product stand out from the crowd. Tell us more.

JAMS & CONDIMENTS

2 Classes – Sweet or Savoury

All the fabulous fruit and vegetables of Dorset often end up in wonderful sweet compliments and condiments for our plates. Tell us about your jams, chutneys and sauces created from Dorset produce.

We are looking for the best Sweet and Savoury Condiments in Dorset and will be awarding a Winner and a Runner-Up for both sweet and savoury producers. If you produce both sweet and savoury products then you may enter one product into each of the classes.

We want to hear how you are sourcing and using local ingredients and which of your products keep your customers coming back for more.

HONEY

Are you a Dorset beekeeper with a passion for producing local honey products? Even if you are only producing your delicious honey just for your lucky local community, we want to hear from you! What makes your honey stand out from the crowd? What are your bee-keeping principles? Tell us about your honey and your wonderful Dorset business.

Each producer may enter just one jar of honey to be judged.

DRINKS

3 Classes – Non-alcoholic, beer & cider, wine & spirits

Drinks – do you produce a Dorset drink to savour on the tongue? Something to quench the thirst that is all about Dorset and its’ country life? Tell us what you are brewing or blending this year for the tastebuds of your locals.

Each drinks producer can only enter one product per category, for example if you are a cider producer you could enter an apple juice in the non alcoholic or a cider in beer & cider. We want to hear how you are sourcing and using your local ingredients, and what makes your product stand out from the crowd.

We will be awarding both a Winner and a Runner-Up for the three drinks sections – Non-Alcoholic, Beer & Cider and Wine & Spirits

FISH

Fish – with one of the longest coastlines in the UK, Dorset has some of the best fish the country has to offer. Do your fishy friends come from our coastal waters and feed the good people of Dorset? Tell us more about your produce and its’ journey to our plates.

Entries must be sourced from fish caught by a Dorset-based crew, using sustainable methods of stock management. Only one fish product can be entered per fisherman/fishmonger.

MEAT

Meat – we know that Dorset has some of the very best meat in the whole of the country. Tell us all about your meat, its’ story, provenance and traceability. What makes it taste so good? How do you rear your animals? What makes you stand out from the crowd?

Meat entries must be produced from animals that have been reared within Dorset. The animals should be raised by means of good animal husbandry and with plenty of access to outdoor space or pasture. Only one meat product from each farmer/butcher can be entered into the class.

CHEESE

Cheese – some amazing, award-winning cheeses are made right here on our Dorset doorstep. We know you are out there so please share the story of your cheese with us.

This award is open to both hard and soft cheeses that are made with either pasteurised or unpasteurised milk. Any added ingredients or flavourings should be natural and wherever possible also sourced from within Dorset. All entries must be produced in Dorset and each producer can enter only one cheese product into the class.

DAIRY

Dairy – well-known for its many dairy farmers and amazing dairy products, Dorset has lots to share in this awards class. Are you a local producer of tasty dairy treats and products?

This award is open to all dairy producers. Entries can be made with either pasteurised or unpasteurised milk. Each dairy producer can enter only one dairy product. Any added ingredients or flavourings should be natural and wherever possible, sourced from within Dorset.

FRUIT & VEGETABLES

Are you a fruit or vegetable grower with green culinary fingers? Then enter our awards today!

We are looking for the best fruit and vegetables grown in Dorset. This category encompasses everything that can be grown or farmed in soil or water as long as it is grown here in Dorset! Tell us your story and something special about what makes your produce stand out from the green crowd.

We know that growing seasons vary for fruit and vegetables, therefore when you complete your entry form can you please let us know what month you would like your produce to be judged.

INNOVATION & DIVERSIFICATION

Innovation & Diversification  – Is your business independently owned and based in Dorset? Can you demonstrate that your business has taken an opportunity and turned it into a new venture? Are you re-using something that other people throw away or think has no worth? Have you come up with something new and exciting that no one else has thought of? Share your innovative business idea with us here.

This award will be split into two classes one for businesses with 30 or under employees and one for over 30 employees.

Entrants will be judged on a combination of factors to include, creativity, sustainability and sound business principles.

CONSERVATION & SUSTAINABILITY

Is your business independently owned and based in Dorset? We would love to hear how you’ve helped the environment, how you are adding to our local Dorset and more about your imagination and ideas.

This award will be split into two classes one for businesses with 30 or under employees and one for over 30 employees.

Entrants will be judged on a combination of factors to include, creativity, sustainability and sound business principles.

Rising Star – are you under 30 and forward thinking? Or is your business under 2 years old? Have you embarked on a new venture that is all about Dorset and embraces the ethos of Love Local Trust Local?
